The full-spectrum hemp craze has shown no signs of slowing and it seems like CBD is in everything nowadays from oils to coffee to lotions to shampoos. You might have already jumped on the CBD train or maybe it’s just piqued your interest. But either way, CBD—the abbreviated term for cannabidiol—is here to stay.

So What Is CBD?

CBD is a chemical compound, one of over 100 known as cannabinoids, that is derived directly from the hemp plant, a cousin of the marijuana plant, and is being used to produce numerous types of products.

Why Use Full Spectrum Hemp

Over the past few years, full-spectrum hemp has gained momentum in the health and wellness world as studies have shown its ability to help ease chronic pain and anxiety. It has been shown to alleviate pain associated with multiple sclerosis and arthritis and can reduce the incidence of seizures in epileptic children and adults. It may also help reduce symptoms related to cancer and the side effects associated with chemotherapy, such as nausea, vomiting, and pain.

In addition, CBD shows promise as a natural treatment for both depression and anxiety, possibly replacing the need for reliance on side effect-heavy pharmaceutical drugs. It’s also been touted to provide relief from post-traumatic stress disorder, promote restful sleep, and reduce muscle aches and pains.

But what about THC?

While THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and the component responsible for the “high” that marijuana is known for, CBD is not psychoactive. Full-spectrum hemp does not have a substantial effect on cognitive brain activity, unlike THC, which produces a euphoric sensation.

However, many CBD products do contain trace amounts of THC, which should be noted in the ingredients, so do your research before buying any product.

How To Take Full Spectrum Hemp

The market has been flooded with CBD-infused products, which gives you ample options in how you would like to use it and for what purpose.

The two most common ways to use full-spectrum hemp are orally and topically. Within these two categories, there are different delivery methods, such as tinctures, salves, capsules, gummies, and more.

Orally vs. Topically

Ingesting CBD orally has a systemic effect, which means it works on your entire body. So if you are looking to address anxiety or sleep, this would be your preferred method. Meanwhile, using a topical CBD product, such as a cream, lotion, or salve, is best to treat a targeted or acute issue, such as muscular aches and pains.

If you haven’t taken full-spectrum hemp before, one of the easiest ways is to ingest it orally via capsules. As they are already pre-measured, the dosage is clear, which ensures consistency so you can easily figure out how much works for you.

CBD oil, which is known as a tincture, is consumed by placing it underneath the tongue and holding it there for up to one minute. Unlike capsules, the benefit of using a tincture is that you can easily adjust the dosage. You can also add it to food, such as smoothies or coffee.

Another ingestible option is a chewable gummy, which can be found in a variety of flavors and sizes.

Many people mix and match their preferred methods of delivery depending on their needs and to find what works best for them and in what dosage.
