Achieving Wellness can be an ambitious undertaking. With the world as chaotic and stressful as it gets in the modern-day lifestyle, it can even seem impossible. Building a strong Wellness Model for your life is important, but how can it be maintained, even begun? Here, we discuss a few ideas and tips for small steps in your Wellness Journey, be you a beginner in this journey or someone who’s experiencing interruptions to your usual wellness routine. We’ll go over a few tenants of our founder’s favored Wellness Model, starting with…
Energy
Not just the energy of the body itself, but also the energy surrounding you. When your mental and spiritual energy is compromised, it can compromise your physical energy as well. A good balance is needed to maintain healthy energy, and there are some very simple ways to keep your energy clean and at its best.
Crystals: There are many crystals of many varying properties, most of them with a focus on maintaining or altering energies in your life. Black Tourmaline, for example, is a stone known to absorb and dispel negative energies, and protect the keeper from dark feelings. It’s good for easing day-to-day anxieties, helping in more restful sleep, and protecting the soul from possible energetic disruptions.
Aventurine is also a good crystal for balancing out the energies in your life. While Black Tourmaline focuses on protection, Aventurine focuses on growth and manifestation. It helps to strengthen the connection between heart and mind, allowing for not only support of mental and emotional balance but also aids in the manifestation of personal prosperity and abundance. This includes emotional prosperity, with Aventurine being known to bring a feeling of lightness, humor, and ease in the practice of embracing the flow of life as it ebbs and changes.
As our final example, though the list of crystals that help with maintaining and improving spiritual, mental, and physical energies hardly ends here, we have Caribbean Calcite. This crystal focuses on calm and grounding. It aids in connecting us to the now, encouraging us to live in the present moment and easing anxieties about the future or the past. As a combination of two powerful crystals, Blue Calcite and Aragonite, it is able to both ease the mind and ground the body, once more encouraging a balance in your energies. And, as a unique blend of earth and water energies, it’s been known to not only bring peace and relieve stress but aid in the most important energy-sustaining practice of all: It promotes restful sleep.
Aromatherapy: Aromatherapy has been known to treat energy imbalance and rid oneself of negative energies for thousands of years. Specialized aromatherapy tools, such as the Shanti Kai flower essence sprays we carry, can be used to target specific chakras and energies, while an essential oil diffuser can provide a more blanket balance and protection throughout an entire room or home. Incense can also be thought of as a form of aromatherapy, among its other spiritual and cleansing uses.
Energy Healing: Energy healing does not need to be, nor is it often, complicated or inaccessible. A very good, basic, introductory-friendly form of energy healing is Reiki. While there are many forms of Reiki and many ways to practice it, it generally involves a touch-free clearing of the chakras. A session could involve crystals and aromatherapy as well, depending on the style of the healer you see. Whatever additional modalities are used to assist in the chakra clearing and energetic refreshment, Reiki is an overall relaxing and renewing experience. It’s so relaxing that many find they can fall asleep during the session for an additional boost to one’s energy.
Immunity
In this day and age, looking out for our bodies’ immune system is more important than ever, and almost always at the forefront of our minds. So how do we look out for our immune systems in a way that aligns with our wellness practices?
Chinese Medicinal Herbs: Really, Chinese Herbs can treat most wellness focuses, from energy issues such as anxiety and stress to physical issues like gut health and excessive acne. But the focus of this article currently is the use of Chinese Herbs to strengthen our immune systems. Experts on these all-natural supplements, such as our very own Acupuncture team here at 808 Wellness, have studied the long-standing traditional uses of these herbs and can help with finding what particular supplement can help you. This leads us to our next suggestion, in fact.
Acupuncture: Just like with Chinese Herbs, Acupuncture can be used to treat many forms of wellness issues, or to enhance an already effective wellness routine and make it even better. It can help with everything from simple relaxation to helping improve the connection and energy flow between vital organs. This includes our topic, Immunity. Acupuncture can be used to help strengthen the immune system, both through its help in balancing chakras and energies as well as its work in helping the organs work more harmoniously together.
Essential Oils: Certain oils and oil blends can be used to help boost the immune system. Here at 808 Wellness, we carry a doTERRA blend, known as On Guard, meant for exactly this purpose. Individual oils can also be used, such as Eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus oils are known to have anti-inflammatory properties, as well as antioxidant properties. Clove oil has been known to work similarly at the correct doses, and like Eucalyptus has been used in Eastern Medicine for thousands of years. And of course, Lavender Oil has been known to not only ease anxiety and promote sleep (which in and of themselves help improve the function of the immune system) but has also been said to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
The best way to introduce these oils into your routine would be via a humidifier, adding a few drops (depending on strength of the oil) to the water amount your humidifier requires and allowing that to envelope your environment. If you choose to apply Essential Oils topically, always take caution and read the label to ensure it’s safe for the skin, and make sure to dilute stronger oils with neutral ones, such as coconut oil or jojoba oil.
Metabolism
A well-maintained metabolism can help with all of the issues we’ve discussed so far and many more. When your metabolism is working properly you should be getting plenty of good energy, your immune system should be working well, and your spirit should be nourished by the health of your body. You should have plenty of energy to tend to your important tasks as well as smaller steps of daily self-care, and that relief of stress helps balance the energies as well. So how do we help out our natural metabolic systems?
Chinese Medicinal Herbs: That’s right, they’re heroes once more! Chinese herbs can be used to treat a wide, wide variety of issues one may face, and metabolism is no different. The body is a full system, and sometimes a problem may come from an unexpected source. For example, the kidney may be working overtime during colder months in order to help maintain body heat, but the symptoms may seem to have nothing to do with kidney functions at first glance. As such, a proper herbal consultation with an experienced practitioner, such as acupuncturists, is always recommended, whether you’re looking to treat severe symptoms or just looking to keep your body going strong.
Acupuncture: Another reappearance! Organs such as the liver, pancreas, thyroid, and more are all vital parts of a well-functioning metabolism, and part of that function is their ability to “communicate”, so to speak. This just means how easily the organs are able to function in harmony. Acupuncture is all about the harmony of the body, and as such is a perfect treatment when looking into metabolic upkeep. If you’re experiencing a problem maintaining energy, perhaps your organs are having difficulty communicating properly. Acupuncture has been known to improve the communication between organs, and through that, energy levels have been known to improve as well.
Naturopathic Consultation: Naturopathic medicine blends modern and cutting-edge wellness techniques with time-honored ancient practices, all centered around Diet. No, not as in dieting fads meant for weight loss, but simply what one puts in their body and how it affects their overall wellbeing. Naturopathic medicine aims to remove the use of pharmaceutical drugs and utilize gentler, more natural practices to treat various conditions of the body. The base of this form of wellness modality is Food. A good Naturopathic doctor will tailor the recommended treatments, be it simple dietary changes, herbal supplements, or energy work, to be specific for the person they are treating instead of a broad-sweeping pre-planned routine. Everyone’s bodies function uniquely, and thus the treatment given is to be unique as well.
